Slovenia's Jure Robic has won RAAM 4 times and is going for a 5th win! He biked thru our Time Station #5 in Congress, Arizona around 6 am on Thursday, June 18th, 2009 without stopping, but he flashed me a big grin as he went by. His follow vehicle had loud speakers on it that were blaring an ooompa ooompa tune with words I couldn't understand and Jure's legs were pedaling to match the beat of the song.
You can see Jure Robic coming - he's in blue sleeves just over the right shoulder of the photographer in army green.
Here's a video I posted on YouTube.com of Jure's arrival and departure -
And there he goes into the morning sun - toward Yarnell Hill.
Members of his crew looked bright and chipper for so early in the morning!
They were all friendly - but focused on the business at hand.
After Jure Robic had gone through Congress, they checked out RAAM standings via our Time Station #5 Internet Cafe.
They got some hot coffee and traded a t-shirt with John Watt, co-founder and previous president of the Bullshifters Bicycling Club. He was thrilled!
